FX Orders Tom Hardy Drama 'Taboo'

FX wants in on Taboo, a period drama starring Tom Hardy as an adventurer bent on revenge.

Produced by Ridley Scott and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Locke), it was originally announced in April as a BBC project, but it will now be an international co-production.

An eight-episode series, Taboo stars Hardy as James Keziah Delaney “a rogue adventurer who returns to England from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds to seek vengeance after the death of his father. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a dangerous game with two warring nations, Britain and America.”

Hardy and his father Chips came up with the initial stor,  which was fully written by Knight. Production will start next year, with an eye toward a mid-2016 premiere.
