FX Orders Sci-Fi Spoof Pilot From Reno 911! Creators

FX has ordered a sci-fi comedy pilot from the creators of Reno 911! that looks to be a send-up of Star Trek.

U.S.S. Alabama, from Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, is set a thousand years in the future, where the crew of a spaceship continues a seven-year mission to maintain interplanetary peace.

According to the cable network, "the show will follow the heart-pounding action as our crew visits hostile planets, meets alien life-forms, and tries to have sex with each other in their tiny, metal bunk beds." Like Reno 911!, the series will be part-scripted, part-improvised. The pilot, which also stars Garant and Lennon, begins production next month.

Following the cancellation of Reno 911! in 2009, Garant and Lennon created and starred in a sitcom pilot for NBC called The Strip. However, the network decided not to produce the series.
