FX has decided its boxing drama Lights Out, which premiered in January with 1.5 million viewers but never found its footing, won’t return for a second round.
“The audience didn’t want to watch a show about boxing,” network president John Landgraf tells Deadline. The final two episodes of the series, about a washed-up former heavyweight champion (Holt McCallany) fighting for a comeback, will air on March 29 and April 5.
While that show is down for the count, the website reports there’s good news for another under-appreciated FX drama: Network executives are close to renewing Justified for a third season, despite the low ratings for Wednesday’s episode. The critically acclaimed — and rightfully so! — neo-Western, about a no-nonsense U.S. marshal (Timothy Olyphant) who returns to his native Eastern Kentucky, is performing better than its first season and closing in on FX Sons of Anarchy.
