WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the story "The Beginning of the End" from Future State: Suicide Squad #1 by Jeremy Adams, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Jeromy Cox & Wes Abbott, on sale now

"Future State" has pushed numerous heroes down villainous paths, ranging from a corrupted Wally West to a Magistrate-aligned Red Hood. Some of the most unexpected and brutal betrayals are coming in the distant future, however, where a great evil has made her way through the universe and wiped out all life it can find and there are actually some former heroes by their side.

The Unkindness is one of the forces of chaos that seems to be wiping out the distant DC future of the Justice Legion including Dove, who seems to have renounced the Lords of Order to become one of the greatest villains in the universe.

The original Hawk and Dove, Hank and Don Hall, were brothers and champions of the Lords of Chaos and Order respectively. The pair were heroes in the Pre-Crisis DC Universe before Dove was killed during "Crisis on Infinite Earths." In the Post-Crisis DC Universe, Dawn Granger took his place as a champion of Order and has been a hero ever since, often contending with mystical threats across the globe. In both the Post-Crisis DC Universe and the Post-Flashpoint DC Universe, she ended up being absorbed into the Teen Titans, working alongside the next generation of heroes. But it seems that won't always be the case for her -- at least according to the events of "Future State."

Among the possible futures revealed for the DC Universe include a disastrous one for the 853rd Century. While the galaxy has largely been at peace under the protection of the Justice Legion, the coming of the Unkindness and her forces quickly prove to be almost unstoppable. The Unkindness is powerful enough to defeat Golden Superman, wipe out the Atlanteans, and seemingly make Mojo disappear. With the Unkindness arrives a force of powerful other mystic figures, each now embracing the Lords of Chaos over anything else. Some of the champions of the Unkindness are long-time villains, such as Vandal Savage and the Child. Others, like Klarion's rebellious familiar Teekl, had more flexible moralities.

But the most surprising of the Unkindness' forces is Dove. She's seemingly forsaken the ways of Order and not just embraced chaos but violence as a core principle. Her costume has traded out her distinct white and blue for Hawk's crimson red against black. She seems to still be in good health despite the massive amount of time it's been since the present-day, suggesting that Dove's powers might make her more invincible than anyone would expect. Despite her former loyalties, Dove takes part in the attack across the Multiverse, working alongside the Unkindness and her other servants to destroy everything they can.

It's a surprising and horrifying possible ending for the character, with her potential fate seeing her become a villain, much as the Post-Crisis Hawk eventually did when he became known as Extant. Her costume even bears some similarities to that design for Hawk, suggesting she may have gone through a similar transformation. It gets even sadder when one considers the possibility that the Unkindness might be the final form of Raven as well, meaning that the last two Teen Titans in this time-period ended up becoming nightmarish versions of themselves together.
