It was recently announced that starting in January 2021, DC Comics' fictional universe will jump ahead into futures both near and far with DC Future State, which will see new characters adopt the mantles of fan-favorite heroes. Among those characters will be The Guardian, whose successor, named the Guardian of Metropolis, will be featured in a story in the oversized Future State: Superman of Metropolis limited series appropriately titled The Guardian by writer Sean Lewis and artist Cully Hamner.

Hamner recently took to Twitter to share his design for the character. As revealed by DC's January 2021 solicitations, the Guardian of Metropolis is Jake Jordan, who was once the hero known as the Manhattan Guardian.

"Hey, since we're all about Future State today," Hamner tweeted, "[DC Comics] has cleared me to share this look at the Guardian Of Metropolis, from the two-parter [Sean Lewis] and I are doing in SUPERMAN OF METROPOLIS."

Per the full summary for the DC Future State Superman family titles,

Due to his involvement in an international crisis happening in the near future, Clark Kent has been rejected by Earth, causing him to focus his lifesaving efforts outside his adopted home. He travels to Warworld to rise through the ranks of gladiatorial combat in order to defeat Mongul with the help of some unlikely heroes. Back in Metropolis, Clark’s son Jon has taken on the mantle of Superman. After seeing the horrors that befell Gotham, he bottles Metropolis in order to keep it safe, putting him at odds with Supergirl.

Connecting the two oversized Future State: Superman titles, Shilo Norman, the man known as Mister Miracle, finds himself caught between the city he grew up in and the battle-torn planet that could be his downfall. Meanwhile in the Amazon rainforest, Yara Flor is chosen to be the new Wonder Woman. Years later, the new Superman and Wonder Woman join forces to save their cities in a new superhero team-up the likes of which the world has never seen.

Other Future State titles include The Next Batman, Dark Detective, Harley Quinn, Superman: Worlds of War, Wonder Woman, Justice League and Swamp Thing.

DC Future State begins in January 2021 from DC and will last for two months. The event will be divided into three banners: Batman, Superman and Justice League.
