DC Future State – 10 Things Fans Need To Know

The series is still some way off for DC fans, with the Future State event set to be released in January 2021. It is for this reason that little is still known of the storylines that the series will follow.

That being said, there is good reason as to why the series is so far off and so little is known about it. The event is going to follow the Death Metal event, so time will have to be given for this event to conclude, without revealing too much about what happens to these characters during Death Metal.

7 2 Month Run Time

The Future State event is set to debut in January 2021 and continue running for two months, showing the fans of DC Universe what the future has in store for their favorite characters after the events of Death Metal have run its course.

What is slightly strange is that the event is only set to run for two months, which is a relatively short period of time for a comic book event. For instance, the current Death Metal run has been going for far longer than the two months that Future State is set to take up.

6 Writer And Artist

Future State has attracted some of the best writers and artists working in the comic book industry today, with the likes of Oscar winner John Ridley writing for the Next Batman comic book line. Similarly, Superman has been given a crack creative team to craft a fresh and new Superman story.

The Superman of Metropolis story will be penned and drawn by the combination of Sean Lewis and John Timms. However, a wide variety of artists and writers will be contributing to the Superman storyline across the crossover event, including Gene Luen Yang, Ben Oliver, Mark Russell, Steve Pugh, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, and Mikel Janin.

5 Superman Has Left Earth

Future State Superman Clark Kent

One of the most interesting storylines follows Superman leaving Earth. DC’s solicits for January write that Superman has been forced to leave Earth after a recent event. The hero decided to head to the brutal War World in order to defeat Mongul.

The series will follow Superman as he fights as a gladiator in the pits of War Wold, trumping Mongul’s plans to defeat the Man of Steel in the process. This comic also features a particularly interesting redesign of the classic Superman costume.

4 Comic Book With Wonder Woman

DCeased Superman Wonder Woman feature

In addition to featuring the story in which Superman is fighting in the pits of War World, the Future State will also feature a crossover story between Superman and Wonder Woman, showing the two iconic heroes working together during the Future State event.

Not much is known about this series, but the simple fact that it is set to include both Superman and Wonder Woman is enough to excite DC fans, as well as wider comic book fans in general. However, this series comes with a twist, as it follows the new Superman and new Wonder Woman rather than the classic versions.

3 Clash With Professor Pyg

Professor Pyg is another more recently-introduced Batman supervillain in the comics

In addition to his War World and Wonder Woman comic book series, Superman is also set to appear in a series that focuses on the adventures of Batman and Superman during the Future State event. The series is also set to feature one of Batman’s most sadistic and gruesome villains.

Typically, Professor Pyg wouldn’t be able to inflict too much damage on the Man of Steel, as the Kryptonian is naturally difficult to harm. However, DC’s solicits for January show that Pyg has somehow managed to get his hands on a kryptonite scalpel, which surely means trouble for the Man of Steel.

2 Superman’s Son Takes Over

Superboy Conner Kent Jon Kent

One of the most anticipated storylines in Future State will see Superman leave Earth and fight in the gladiator pits of War World, with Superman eventually destined to come into conflict with the powerful Mongul.

However, another aspect of the Future World storyline will see Superman’s son, Jon, take over some of his crime-fighting duties on Earth, becoming a ‘New Superman’ so to speak.

1 Lex Luthor Will Appear

Some fans may be surprised that Lex Luthor hasn’t been mentioned yet, with Luthor being the most recognizable and iconic of Superman’s rogues gallery. However, rest assured, the bald megalomaniac is set to appear and even has his name in one comic book series title.

In the comic series Superman vs. Imperious Lex, the iconic Superman villain will clash with the Man of Steel. The January solicits suggest that the plot will revolve around ‘Lex’s Utopia’, though fans will have to wait and see for more information.
