WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1 by Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, Jen Bartel and Pat Brosseau, on sale now.

Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1 has plunged the Amazonian princess once more into a world that's teetering on the brink of destruction. In this potential future era, the Amazons abandoned mankind for its solipsistic vanity. And while the Earth bleeds due to humanity's mistakes, Themyscira hasn't fared any better.

However, things are only getting worse for Wonder Woman and the Amazons, because a dark, malevolent entity called the Undoing is coming to devour the Earth. And oddly enough, it has a striking resemblance to Marvel's King in Black, and the symbiote dragons that make up Knull's invasion force.

Marvel's Knull, the symbiote god, has been using his dark forces to take planets all across the galaxy. With a reign of terror that spreads from the Kree-Skrull Imperium to Earth, his black dragons serve as his foot-soldiers, swarming innocent planets. And in this DC story, there's a very similar element that Darkseid recognizes all too well.

The Lord of Apokolips gives up the fight before it even comes to his doorsteps as the sea of black starts taking his homeworld. As Big Barda and Orion tell him that he needs to fight back after the fall of New Genesis, he speeds off towards Earth. As he goes, we can see black dragon-like monsters devouring his home and as he flies through the galaxy, the shadow legions are engulfing worlds all over.

Aas he surveys the damage, Darkseid deems this darkness to be the real Anti-Life Equation, which raises some questions about the truth behind it. While he should be bartering a truce with the all-consuming darkness, he's making a huge mistake because as he approaches Earth, he ends up in a fight with an old Superman.

This isn't the way to make allies and it also pisses Diana off, especially as she wanted to focus on protecting her dimension from the Sun-eaters and world destroyers who have defined so many of DC's modern tales. She even had a war council with the remnants of her people, but sadly, Darkseid zapping them with his Omega Sanction, raising even more questions about how to proceed.

It's clear that Darkseid might even kill Superman as well, so it appears he's given into his bloodlust once more and reverted to his old selfish ways. Diana does have one ace up her sleeve in Swamp Thing and the Green, but these forces are unfortunately dying too. Hopefully, she can harness this elemental power and set Darkseid straight before either of them wastes too much energy, because the Undoing is about to obliterate reality and the planet itself.
