With DC Comics' Future State event just around the corner, the official solicitation for Future State: Catwoman #2 teases the return of none other than Onomatopoeia, a DC villain co-created by Mallrats and Clerks director Kevin Smith.
The second and final issue in Catwoman's solo Future State title, Future State: Catwoman #2 is slated to go on sale in February, one month after issue #1. "Catwoman has clawed her way through half of the Magistrate's bullet train, but her fight has only just begun!" issue #2's official synopsis reads. "Now, with Onomatopoeia in tow, Selina makes her way toward the car carrying a ghost of her past, and Gotham’s as well. It’s Bruce Wayne… but is it really him?" Additionally, Onomatopoeia can be seen at the bottom of Liam Sharp's cover for Future State: Catwoman #2, running towards the viewer.
Created by the aforementioned Kevin Smith alongside Phil Hester, Onomatopoeia (whose true identity remains a mystery) is a serial killer who primarily targets superheroes without powers, and likes to imitate the noises around him. The character first appeared in 2002's Green Arrow #12, with his last appearance in DC's New Earth reality coming in 2010's Batman: Widening Gyre #6. Onomatopoeia joined the Prime Earth reality in 2017 via Teen Titans #13 and has gone on to make sporadic appearances as part of the title, most recently appearing in last month's Teen Titans #46. Notably, however, DC's current Teen Titans series concludes this Tuesday with issue #47. Come Future State, it looks like Onomatopoeia has Catwoman in his sights.
