In the upcoming Mad Mad: Fury Road prequel movie, Furiosa, star Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays protagonist Imperator Furiosa, did her own stunt-driving despite not having a license.

"I don’t actually have a license, so I can’t drive," the actor said in an interview with IndieWire. "I can't on a highway, I can't parallel park, but if you need me to do a juicy 180 in a truck, I can do that and not hit the camera people, which is great." She added that she hopes to eventually "be in a place long enough to get a driver's license." She added, "But in terms of first cars, I think I’m quite spoiled in the fact that they were built by the Mad Max art department."

The actor also added that the process of getting her license would be a wild one for a driving instructor, because "all I know how to do is crazy stunt driving." She continued, "I’m planning on getting my stunt driver’s certificate… so then I’ll be able to do all of my driving in all films, which would be great. But I fear for the poor [person] that is taking the test with me, because gentle, I am not."

Taylor-Joy may have to put her stunt-driving career on pause for the foreseeable future, as Furiosa officially wrapped filming in October. The actor announced the film's wrap via Instagram, sharing a series of BTS photos and calling the cast and crew some of the "most fun, the most resilient, the most talented" she's ever worked with. "Thank you for making me tougher than I ever thought I could be," she added.

Furiosa Is a Stunt-Filled Spinoff

Furiosa's official synopsis hints that it will be very action-packed and filled with road stunts. The film is set to see Furiosa after she is "snatched form the Green Place" by Warlord Dr. Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) prior to the events of 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, and forced to travel across the dangerous wasteland as Dementus and The Immortan Joe "war for dominance."

Photos of Taylor-Joy working on the film came out in August and showed the actor looking unrecognizable with her blonde hair dyed brown, and her face covered in dirt and mud. She's not the only actor who underwent a major transformation for the film. Set photos of Hemsworth, best known for his role as Marvel Studios' Thor, showed the actor with long red hair and a beard -- a substantial change from his usual blonde mane.

Hemsworth recently discussed his role as Dr. Dementus in the film, stating that the character is "a very complicated, somewhat evil individual." The actor also revealed that his time working on the production was very positive, explaining that director George Miller is "kind and collaborative and interesting."

Furiosa hits theaters on May 24, 2024.
