Make some room in your Batman collection, because a new Robin figure is coming very soon. Popular toy and collectible manufacturing company Funko has just unveiled two new Pop! vinyl figures based on characters from DC Comics.
The first is a Pop! vinyl figure of Tim Drake's Red Robin, as seen in DC's New 52 in 2011. Tim Drake is the third Robin to work at Batman's side, following Dick Grayson and Jason Todd's Boy Wonders respectively. Eventually, Drake would take on the mantle of Red Robin. As part of DC's New 52 relaunch -- which streamlined and modernized DC Universe continuity -- Drake was made the founder and leader of the Teen Titans, and he received a new costume where his cape doubled as wings to mirror his codename.
Funko's newest Pop! figure brings this version of the character to life. Following the release of an exclusive Pop! figure of Jason Todd's Red Hood during last year's Comic-Con International in San Diego and a general release of Dick Grayson's Nightwing, fans can now add a third Robin to their collection.
The other major Pop! that Funko announced is a new figure of the Joker, also as he was seen in the early days of the New 52. As readers might recall, the Joker had his face infamously cut off by the Dollmaker in order to disappear. When he resurfaced in writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo's Batman storyline "Death of the Family," the Clown Prince of Crime returned with the costume of a mechanic named Joe and the skin of his face gruesomely stapled back onto his head.
This new Joker Pop! accurately brings this particularly creepy version of the Batman villain to life, from the facial muscles to the pulled-apart grin. While there have been many Pop! figures of the Joker before, this is the first one that reflects the Joker's differently-colored eyes, as the character has often been portrayed starting in "Death of the Family."
Both figures will be exclusive to Hot Topic, which means these may be hard to find. While the two collectibles do not have a specific release date, they are expected to be available at Hot Topic stores by the end of February.
