The first trailer for the live-action adaptation of “Fullmetal Alchemist” has finally been released, and fans may want to ready themselves as the first look at the long-anticipated project just might live up to the hype.
In the trailer, we don’t see much of brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric. Rather, we see brief shots of the film while we’re introduced to the world of alchemy. Towards the end of trailer, Edward and Alphonse finally appear, although Al’s metallic body can only be seen from the stomach down. After that, we see what looks to be some sort of transmutated creature attacking Edward.
“Fullmetal Alchemist” tells the story of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who attempt to use alchemy to resurrect their deceased mother. The bid fails, and in the process, Edward’s arm and leg - along with Alphonse’s entire body - are taken. The series then follows the two as they attempt to find the Philosopher’s Stone in order to restore their bodies.
The film has been anxiously awaited by fans of the series. Directed by Fumihiko Sori (best known for the 2002 film “Ping Pong”), the movie stars Ryosuke Yamada as Edward Elric. The adaptation of the anime promises to feature most of the cast from the original series, including Winry Rockbell, Colonel Roy Mustang, and even Shou Tucker (so prepare to cry).
“Fullmetal Alchemist” hits theaters in Japan in late-2017.
