Father  is, at his core, a super villain. He has superhuman powers and a collection of henchmen with their own powers, and he slowly uses those powers to subjugate those around him, until the heroes of the story eventually put him down.

Marvel villains aren’t all that different, and many of them have the same philosophies and methods as Father. Others, of course, aren’t really the working-with-others types. Here are five Marvel villains that Father from Fullmetal Alchemist might partner up with and five that he would probably steer clear of.

10 WOULD WORK WITH: Dr. Doom

What makes Dr. Doom unique among his villainous contemporaries is that he's the leader of his own country, Latveria (PS: Not everybody necessarily recognizes it as its own country). Not only that, but he managed to accumulate a vast amount of power and wealth through fear and his vast intelligence.

These are qualities that Father would certainly admire. He would also want to make use of the resources and technology at Doom’s disposal in order to further his own goals of world domination.

9 WOULDN'T WORK WITH: Thanos

Thanos’s obsession with Death (literally, he is obsessed with a woman named Death) makes him completely psychotic and impossible to control. He can’t even handle his own feelings long enough to figure out what Death wants him to do, so he usually just spends a lot of time killing people.

Father would avoid having someone around he can’t control, especially when that someone just keeps murdering everyone in sight to try to prove his love to a Death goddess.

8 WOULD WORK WITH: Red Skull

Red Skull is an obvious choice for someone like Father. Father’s influence in Amestris has turned the state into a militaristic fascist nation not unlike Nazi Germany - right down to a lot of German names and iconography. Basically, Amestris would be a place that Red Skull would be all over.

Father would likewise be interested in Red Skull’s dogged pursuit of power through science, which Father is both the product of, as a homunculus, and deeply interested in in order to remain the most powerful being on the planet.

7 WOULDN'T WORK WITH: Magneto

On the other hand, Magneto is pretty much as anti-fascist as they come. As a survivor of the Holocaust, he has a very specific beef with Germany, so he wouldn’t necessarily want to work with someone like Father.

But then again, Father would probably also reject the idea of working with someone like Magneto since the master of magnetism is likely more powerful than him but also less refined and orderly - two qualities Father values highly.

6 WOULD WORK WITH: The Hellfire Club

The Hellfire Club are, in a lot of ways, a direct parallel of Father and the homunculi. They use their money and influence, pretending to be just a social club for the wealthy, to affect governments and regimes around the world, bending everything to their will and for their benefit.

Father would likely admire this group’s use of their wealth and influence and would also use it for his own gain in order to stake his own holds around the world to rise to power all the more easily.

5 WOULDN'T WORK WITH: Ultron

Ultron surrounded by red smoke

In a disturbing way, Ultron and Father are way too similar since they both look down on humans with contempt. But this would likely also mean that they wouldn’t have particularly high opinions of each other’s species either, and their goals would necessarily clash.

Ultron would probably be an asset to Father, since he’s so technologically advanced, but their stark philosophical differences would probably keep them apart.

4 WOULD WORK WITH: AIM

Speaking of technological advances, Father probably wouldn’t be able to resist a group like Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM). While they’re generally seen as nincompoops who can’t seem to get it together, AIM’s main goal is to find new and exciting ways to wage warfare and to become powerful.

Regardless of AIM’s success at this on their own, Father would no doubt use his vast intelligence and network of governments and militaries to make great use of their scientists for his own gain.

3 WOULDN'T WORK WITH: Apocalypse

En Sabah Nur, aka Apocalypse, clenches his fist in rage.

Apocalypse has his own very specific goals in mind for what he expects the world to look like: which is one in which mutants are safe and powerful and have subjugated humans.

Like with Ultron, Father would probably look at this goal as pretty admirable, since he’s pretty much looking to do the same thing with homunculi. But their methods are too different, with Apocalypse focusing solely on violence and Father trying to work his way in on the political side.

2 WOULD WORK WITH: Taskmaster

Taskmaster doesn’t have the same kinds of big goals that a lot of other Marvel villains have. In fact, he’s just a work-for-hire mercenary who’s willing to kill anyone if he’s paid enough for it.

Father would no doubt put skills like his to work in order to get rid of his enemies without having to get his hands dirty himself or using the homunculi, which could make it too clear which way the threat is coming from.

1 WOULDN'T WORK WITH: Carnage

Carnage is a little too psychotic for Father’s needs, even though he probably isn’t all that different from Gluttony at first glance. But where Father can control Gluttony because he’s made from him, Carnage would be a little too much of a free agent and would probably act a little bit too chaotically to be truly useful for very long.

The most Father would be able to hope for is that he would kill the right people before getting himself caught or killed, and that’s probably not enough to warrant teaming up.
