The characters all have very dynamic personalities that make it easy to assign a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) to them. They're all so different and bounce off of each other beautiful creating wonderful dynamics that fans love everywhere.

10 Edward Elric -ENTP, The Debator

Ed is definitely an ENTP. He is constantly debating issues between alchemy, the state military, good and evil, and so much more. Ed is rather feisty and enjoys exploring the world with a unique point of view. He oftentimes plays the role of a devil's advocate, such as in Reole arc when he questioned the practices of Father Cornello, no matter how miraculous his alchemy seemed. Because Ed always asks questions, he always pulls the truth out of people. And for a series that is filled with deceptive characters and major plot twists, this is a great trait to have.

9 Alphonse Elric - INFP, THe Mediator

Fullmetal Alchemist Alphonse Elric blushing

Al is the perfect INFP. He is extremely caring and strives to help everyone he can. After losing Nina and Hughes, he swears he won't let any more of his friends die, a pact he tries to keep throughout the rest of the series. He is incredibly kind and is nice to everyone he meets, even if they are scornful of his appearance. Al strives to help his brother succeed in their mission and has a deep sense of morality. He also doesn't like to talk about his feelings too much in fear that it'll make others upset, he only confides in those closest to him like Ed and Winry.

8 Winry Rockbell - ESFJ, The Consul

Winry is the perfect ESFJ, she deeply feels for the brothers and constantly worries for them along with trying to help them in any way she can. Winry states, "You Two Won't Cry; Someone Should Do It For You, Don't You Think?" and constantly reestablishes this throughout the series.

Winry is also super social and easily makes friends with everyone she interacts with. She is a great friend and has a deeper relationship with Ed that makes her always want to help him more than anything.

7 Roy Mustang - ENTJ, The Commander

No other archetype fits Roy Mustang better than the Commander, ENTJ. Roy is a Colonel in the state military and dreams to one day become the Fuhrer. He leads his people through motivation and influences them all to strive to fight and protect Amestris. He is bold and imaginative and is incredibly strong-willed. He protects his team and will stop at nothing to do so, such as his fight with Lust when she nears killed Riza, himself, and Havoc.

6 Riza Hawkeye - INFJ, The Advocate

The advocate, INFJ, is known to be quiet and almost mystical. This perfectly describes Riza Hawkeye. She is one of the toughest in the state military and is an excellent shot. Riza always helps Roy and is really in the military in order to protect him and if it weren't for him she wouldn't have a profession in the military. INFJs have a deep sense of morality which fits Hawkeye excellently. She is scarred both emotionally and phsyically from her time in the war and carries it with her everyday.

5 Envy - ESFP, The Entertainer

Envy loves attention. That's their entire sin, being jealous of those who get more attention than them. Because of this, the character does a number of things in order to be "the best," but always seems to come up short.

Envy is spontaneous, and not really in a good way. They kill whoever comes in their way without much thought and seems to occasionally make up plans on the fly. They are also extremely enthusiastic about mischief and enjoys starting chaos. Envy was originally what sparked the Ishaval Civil War.

4 Greed - ESTP, The Entrepreneur

Greed is the perfect ESTP, while Ling is an excellent ESFP (like Envy), their main difference being Greed's tact versus Ling jumping into things based on feelings. Greed is charismatic and is easily the most likeable of the seven deadly sins. He is smart and incredibly energetic and enjoys living life on the edge which makes him a great anti-hero. As the show progresses, Greed leans more and more on the side of the brothers.

3 Maes Hughes - ENFJ, The Protagonist

Maes Hughes is a tragic character. He is completely lovable and was loved by many both in the series and out. Which made his untimely death even more painful to witness. His humorous personality lifted the spirits of anyone around him, but his serious side was always something deeply valued by his peers. He is the perfect ENFJ. He is charismatic and knows how to lead his people. Maes's main goal is to help others, his main goal becomes helping the brothers on their journey to get their bodies back.

2 Scar - ISTJ, The Logistician

Scar is an interesting and extremely dynamic character. He starts off the series being one of the main villains and is constantly at odds with Ed and Al and the rest of the state alchemists. It gets even worse when the brothers find out he was the man who killed Winry's parents during the war. However, Scar shows his true, good, intentions as the show proceeds and constantly shows that he is a reliable ally. A prime example of this is when Winry suggests the kidnapping scheme. Throughout the whole process, Scar keeps his promise to keep her safe at all costs while still keeping up the act, making him the perfect ISTJ.

1 Lan Fan - ISFJ - The Defender

Lin Fan is a literal defender for Prince Ling Yao. She takes a lot of hits for him and tries to help him physically as well as emotionally whenever he needs it. She is on the quiet side and is definitely an introvert. Lan Fan has deeper feelings for Ling, which is revealed later on in the series, making her duties more than just work-based. She is extremely dedicated to Ling and will do anything in order to protect him, including risking her own life.
