Unlike its predecessor, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood stuck to its manga roots until the very end, which seemed to be more well-received by fans. Instead of inventing random characters like Dante, the real story takes both characters and the audience into the very center of the maze where the meaning of life undergoes an unraveling.

FMA: Brotherhood is one of the few flawlessly rounded series of all time, with almost every loose thread taken care of. The climax is as explosive and meaningful as anyone could hope for, but what happens after the good guys win? How do they change? How is the world constructed once again? Here is a list that answers all those questions and more.

10 The Ultimate Sacrifice

Ed's defeat of Father required considerable help, but he couldn't call on anybody when faced with the final question: what is he willing to give up to bring his brother back? He enters the white void after casting a Human Transmutation Circle, meeting the Truth on its own turf.

Edward is ready to sacrifice his life, but he instead provides something far more central to his nature: his alchemy. After this point, he will never be an alchemist again, and he tells Truth that this does not reduce his status in any way. Alphonse is returned, and Ed's Gate disappears forever.

9 Father's Fate

Father is once more trapped between the Truth and freedom, while in his real form as the Dwarf-in-the-Flask. He demands why to know why he wasn't able to pull God into himself, but the answer that comes is not one he wants to hear: "because you did not believe in yourself."

The Truth tells him that he is nothing more than a thief, and punishes him by forcing him back into the Gate he was once summoned from. Father weeps miserably, begging the other to reconsider, as he doesn't want to lose his identity within the formless emptiness beyond the Gate. Unfortunately for him, the rules of Equivalent Exchange are immutable.

8 The Circus Pals

Yoki is one of the villains, but only he is arrogant enough to think he has any influence, whatsoever. He spends most of the series working under Scar, and being disciplined for acting like he was better than other people. On the other hand, the chimeras, Darius and Heinkel, fight for the right side, especially after Ed saves them from their previous boss, Kimblee.

In fact, Kimblee's fate is sealed when Heinkel uses his Lion form to rip his throat out. It is hard to imagine a stranger group of colleagues, but it seems that Yoki, Darius, and Heinkel manage to find a job at a circus after the war, where they have become friends, sort of.

7 General Roy Mustang

Roy Mustang hasn't yet given up on his dreams of becoming the Führer of Amestris, regardless of having to compete with the invincible Olivier Mira Armstrong. For his part in the victory against the Homunculi, he is promoted to Brigadier-General and begins one of the toughest jobs of all: creating a foreign trade network between his nation and the East.

In fact, Mustang becomes a General at a later point, and even grows a mustache (that he only thinks he can pull off). As expected, his close friend and personal adjutant remains the same: Riza Hawkeye.

6 Alphonse Learns Alkahestry

Alphonse has his old body back, so he dismantles his armor suit into spare parts for others to use, which is not really surprising given his overwhelming generosity. Two years later, he is seen meeting with his friends, Zampano and Jerso, at a coffee shop, where he tells them of his plan to travel east.

They are curious about this decision, so Alphonse elaborates that he wants to learn alkahestry under May's tutelage. They all travel to Xing together, as Jerso and Zampano hope that alkahestry might somehow revert them into purely human form.

5 Edward Goes To The West

Unsurprisingly, Edward finds his lack of alchemical ability frustrating, but instead of moping about in a puddle of self-pity, he realizes that he can still learn more about it even if he can't use it. As his little brother is traveling East, he goes West, towards the ruins of Xerxes and beyond, in order to study as much as possible about this strange blend of science and art.

Right before Edward leaves, though, he proposes to Winry in his typical way: by suggesting they transfer half their lives according to the principle of Equivalent Exchange.

4 Emperor Ling Yao

As a contender to the Xingese throne, Prince Ling of the Yao clan goes in search of the one thing that could prevent him from being killed by assassins as well as give him sole rights to the throne. He does receive a Philosopher's Stone at the end but is kind enough to offer it to Ed as a means of payment to fix Alphonse's situation.

Of course, Ed refuses, so Ling, Lan Fan, and May Chang make their way back to Xing. He is shown to have become the Emperor some years in the future, but not before promising little May that he would always protect her.

3 The Rebuilding Of Ishval

Of all the innumerable characters in the series, it is Scar who takes the longest to let go of his negativity. But at least he does it, unlike certain incorrigible villains (Wrath). When faced with the prospect of having nothing left to do with his life, Olivier Armstrong tells him that he can help make things better for his own people.

Scar becomes a leading figure in the reconstruction of Ishval, along with Major Miles of Fort Briggs and Roy Mustang. He grows a cute little ponytail, which honestly is the best possible change for this man.

2 Mrs. Bradley's Dangerous Game

Once Pride is "defeated," he leaves behind a peanut-sized fetus (quite unlike his siblings, who just... disappear.) In the future, he is shown once more, but this time as a toddler version of Selim. The child doesn't recall his past life as the first Homunculus and is more focused on helping an injured baby bird that has fallen out of its nest.

Grumman goes to visit Mrs. Bradley, who is taking care of her new son, and warns her that any sign of strange behavior from Selim would warrant extreme consequences. The poor woman assures him that nothing of the sort would happen, but has a nervous twinge in her voice whilst speaking.

1 The Rockbell-Elric Family

There is no question about Edward and Winry's future, except that it is inextricably woven around each other. They both get married, as evidenced by a wedding ring on Edward's left hand. They also have a pair of kids, a boy that looks almost identical to his father, and a little baby girl.

The family has extended beyond their two clans, however, as a picture in the Rockbell-Elric living room wall shows that Paninya, Garfiel, and May Chang have practically become honorary members of the household.
