Shonen Gangan magazine and series creator Hiromu Arakawa are teasing a big announcement to mark the upcoming 20th anniversary of Fullmetal Alchemist's original release.
Via Manga Mogura on Twitter, Shonen Gangan magazine is reportedly teasing the announcement of a new project related to Fullmetal Alchemist and its creator, Hiromu Arakawa. Fullmetal Alchemist will grace the cover of the next issue of the magazine, due out July 12, and the magazine teases that there will be an announcement that "fans won't want to miss." The announcement will be made to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the release of Fullmetal Alchemist's first manga chapter, which was published in the same magazine back in 2001.
Since it's release in 2001, the Fullmetal Alchemist manga has gone on to sell over 70-million copies worldwide. The series received its first anime adaptation in 2003, which diverged from the original manga substantially. This version of the story received an animated movie, The Conqueror of Shamballa, in 2005. A second anime series, subtitled Brotherhood, was released in 2009, and was a more faithfully adaptation of the original source material. Brotherhood also received a theatrical feature, entitled The Sacred Star of Milos, in 2011. In 2017, a live-action film based on the first four volumes of the manga was created by Warner Bros. Japan, and released internationally by Netflix. A number of video games based on the franchise have also been produced by Square-Enix, which is also the publisher of Shonen Gangan, the magazine that Fullmetal Alchemist first debuted in.
