Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood incorporates some of the most colorful characters in shonen history-- if not in anime as a whole. Of course, not colorful in the context of positive and bubbly, but colorful in the context of diversity. This cast of characters and their diverse dynamics is undoubtedly one of the series’ strongest selling points.

With that in mind, a good character is a good character regardless of their aims and motives. The Homunculi, the main antagonist group of the series, are mostly good characters, albeit they might not be the most likable. That being said though, some of them are more likable than others. This list will be exploring just that, just how likable each and every member of this villain squad is.

8 Pride

Pride is the second-in-command of the Homunculi; he is the pinnacle of evil. In all honesty, Pride possesses no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He is the embodiment of his name, egotistical to the core. To him, humans are akin to insects, playthings he could rid off whenever he sees fit.

For these reasons, Pride gets the honor of being the least likable Homunculus. But with that in mind, he is indeed a spectacular villain. That one triggers the most primal feelings of repulsiveness from the fans.

7 Envy

Just like Pride, Envy is an irredeemable scum. They are just so good at making people hate them. One could even argue that Envy receives zero love from the community despite being a wonderful villain.

For a villain to win the favor of the fans, they’ll have to be more than just a villain. But it’s not like the author, Hiromu Arakawa, intended for Envy to be loved in the first place. Envy’s every fiber screams ‘hate me’.

6 Father

Father from the Fullmetal alchemist series

Father is the big boss of all the Homunculi. He was their creator, and therefore their father. All the cardinal sins that make up the Homunculi were originally father’s. The egotistical pride of Pride, the intense jealousy of Envy...etc were all derived from Father.

A sensible argument would be: if the Homunculi inherited Father’s wicked qualities, wouldn’t that make him, the origin, more repulsive than them? Well...yet but no. Father does look down on all living beings, but he does not act as deplorable as some of his ‘children’-- even though he is just as deplorable, if not more.

5 Sloth

True to his name, Sloth is quite the slothful guy. Anything and everything is troublesome by Sloth’s standards. Unsurprisingly, Sloth was not the most interesting of the Homunculi, not even remotely. However, as unimpressive as he was, he stayed true to his character until the bitter end-- or more precisely, sweet end since he was relieved by his parting from this ‘troublesome’ life.

Unlike the good majority of his siblings, Sloth does not view humans as lower lifeforms-- at least as far as we are concerned. All the atrocities he committed were driven by orders he received.

4 Lust

Every Homunculus is viler than the other. Lust, as well, is just as horrible as her counterparts. That being said, she is indeed more likable than the good majority of them. She might’ve inherited Father’s disgust for humans, but she wasn’t a hopeless case.

Unlike Pride who holds no positive sentiments whatsoever, Lust, of all people, does. She had an amicable relationship with Envy and was akin to a mother figure to Gluttony.

3 Gluttony

In any other aspect, Gluttony would’ve scored way less than his siblings, but when it comes to likability, he is indeed one of the most notable. He doesn’t appear to have any negative feelings towards humans. In fact, he respected Ed’s decision for once, which shows he isn’t completely on the extreme side.

Having said so, Gluttony is, after all, a villain. He would make sure to remind us of that fact every time he eats an innocent human-- even if he held no hostile emotion against his victims.

2 King Bradley/Wrath

Wrath is oftentimes dubbed as one of anime’s most remarkable villains, and for good reasons. He is divergent amongst Homunculi. Most of the rest would sacrifice their lives for Father, but he holds such a notion in contempt.

Perhaps due to his coexistence with humans for the longest time, Wrath shows no inherent hostility against them. All the more, he learned to respect their resilience and adaptability. He doesn’t shy away from commending those he deemed worthy. His encounters with Ling and Scar proves that.

1 Greed

Last, but definitely not least, is Greed, the bad guy gone good of Fullmetal Alchemist. He is easily one of the best-written characters in the series. He started out as a bad guy, steadily developed for the better, all while keeping true to himself. He never once strayed away from the virtues of greed, even better, he endorsed them more as his character grew.

Hence, it’s no surprise that Greed is the most likable Homunculi to both fellow characters and fans alike. In terms of the fans’ favor, he even gives some of the main characters a good run for their money.
