One of the most well-known aspects of Fruits Basket is how it can make the fans cry. There are a plethora of tragic scenes surrounding the life of the Sohmas and Tohru, but on the other hand, there are numerous scenes that are so sweet that they bring happy tears to a viewer's eyes. Between Tohru's kindness and sacrificial nature and Akito's torment of the family, the emotions just can't stop coming. Coupled with the new score by Masaru Yokohama, these scenes hit especially hard in Fruits Basket 2019. But which scenes caused the most waterworks? Let's see them ranked!

10 "If I forget you, please befriend me again."

In a scene in the second episode "They're All Animals!", Yuki informs Tohru that she could have her memories erased by Hatori because she knows the family secret. He recounts how he accidentally exposed his zodiac curse when he was a kid and Akito promptly had their memories erased. The family head told him his reasoning which is because if people knew what Yuki was they'd be disgusted by Yuki. Tohru accidentally turns Yuki into a mouse and tells him, "Sure the idea of forgetting does make me said, but if that's what I have to do, I'll grin and bear it. I do have one thing to ask you if I forget you please befriend me again." Instead of feeling disgusted, Tohru only feels kindness towards Yuki and proves to him that Akito is wrong.

9 "We're home."

In episode eight "See You When You Get Back," Saki reveals to Yuki and Kyo that Tohru plans to spend New Years alone and that it will be her first New Year without her mom. The boys rushed back to Shigure's house to find Tohru sitting alone at the table with a picture of her mom on the table next to a cup of tea and tears in Tohru's eyes as she watches holiday programs. The boys play off the situation to lighten the mood though in their minds they're steeped with regret at not seeing how Tohru would feel at first. They say in unison, "We're home." Tohru is touched that they care about her so much and she simply replies, "Welcome home, you two."

8 "You can be selfish every once in a while."

In episode five "I've Been Fooling Myself," Tohru has gone back to live with her grandpa, but she's unhappy there. Kyo and Yuki rescue Tohru from a heated altercation between her and her family. Kyo has a talk with her and tells her, "You can be selfish every once in a while." This is the same advice that Tohru's mom gave her. It's okay for her to want something for herself. Between sobs, Tohru admits that she wants to live with the Sohmas and Yuki and Kyo welcome her with open arms.

7 "He was drawing a fried egg ..."

In episode four "What Year is She?", Kagura tells Tohru how she and Kyo met as kids. Kagura saw him drawing a fried egg in the dirt and then despite the rejection other Sohma members have shown toward him, she offers to play with him. Subsequently, she told him that she would be with him forever. For dinner Kagura makes hamburgers but she adds a friend egg to Kyo's. Kyo is touched that she remembered this special moment from his childhood.

6 "Your words die and your heart follows."

In episode eighteen "What's Important Is ...", Tohru has been taking care of young Kisa for a few days. The little girl has lost her words due to un unknown traumatic experience. While Yuki, Tohru, and Haru are eating lunch Momiji reveals that Kisa was bullied in school because of her unusual eyes and hair. After Kisa tried to explain that she couldn't change how she looked students started ignoring her until she spoke in class then they laughed at her. Over time she stopped talking. Yuki relates this to his own experience with abuse, ending his short reflection with the gut-wrenching, "Your whole life becomes darker. You start to suffocate. Your words die and your heart follows."

5 "When snow melts spring comes."

In episode seven "Spring Comes," Hatori forces Tohru to come to the Sohma estate. While there he transforms into his tiny seahorse zodiac form and recollects about his tragic love story with Kana and how she lit up his life before he had to erase her memories. During these memories, Kana asks Hatori, "What comes of snow when it melts?" Hatori frankly replies, "The answer to that is obviously 'water.'" Kana tells him that's wrong and then says, "The answer is 'Spring comes.'" In reality, when Hatori transforms back to his human form, he and Tohru witness snowfall. He poses Kana's question to Tohru and she replies, "When snow melts spring comes. No matter how cold it is now, spring will come again."

4 "I want to believe that there isn't a single memory that's okay to forget."

In episode fourteen "That's a Secret," while Tohru is at work, Momiji reveals that he has a mother and baby sister--but they don't remember him. He explains the psychology of mothers of zodiac children who usually have and how his mother regretted giving birth to Momiji. But despite all of this he says that he hopes his mother forgetting him saved her and he still loves her. But he also confesses that he doesn't want to be like his mutti. He wants to keep all of his memories no matter how painful they are. During his monologue, Tohru recollects he devastation at seeing her mom's body after the accident. By the end, Tohru can't help but hug him.

3 "But scared or not I want to understand."

In episode twenty-four "Let's Go Home," Tohru finally sees Kyo's true form and for the first time she really hesitates about accepting him. He becomes a repulsive beast, but even though Kyo pushes her away again and again, thinking she'll be just like his mother who didn't truly understand him, Tohru refuses to let him go. She admits that she wants to stay with him no matter what and love all of him even the ugly parts. Eventually, she gets through to him and carries him home.

2 "Trivial moments but precious ones nonetheless."

In episode seventeen "This is for Uo-chan!", Uo admits that she's uncomfortable in Tohru and Kyoko's home because she never truly had one and she believes that if she did, she would still reject it because she can never change. She realizes she's been lonely her entire life and she's been searching for a way to fill that loneliness with acting out. Tohru realizes that at this point words can't help Uo and she simply sits beside Uo and leans her head on her shoulder and becomes a quiet comfort.

1 "I don't learn anything until I get hurt."

Also in episode seventeen "This is for Uo-chan!", Uo has decided she wants to go straight and try to make a better life for herself, but her gang doesn't take that too well. They beat her mercilessly, but Kyoko arrives as the Crimson Butterfly and saves her. Kyoko carries her all the way home on her back. Uo begins to process her feelings of being stupid because of her decisions, but Kyoko reassures her she's on the right path, "Sometimes we don't know how we feel until we're at our worst then it all becomes clear. You can rebel against what's pure, but then when you find yourself filthy you start to yearn for the thing you turned away from. ... Those mistakes will nourish you and help you grow even stronger."
