What's your favorite Shojo manga or anime franchise? Odds are, it's one of the biggies, from Cardcaptor Sakura to Sailor Moon to Fruits Basket. Fans of the latter can rejoice, because 2019 gave us a shiny new Fruits Basket anime season, with modern animation quality making for a stunning retelling of this classic Shojo title.

Another season is on the way, and longtime fans might even have the Fruits Basket manga on their bookshelves. And of course, a hit title like this is going to inspire some terrific cosplay. Fruits Basket fans on Instagram are ready to show off those costumes, so let's take a look. Your favorite Sohmas are about to come to life.

10 The Gang

It was once said that any story, no matter how big or short, comes down to three characters. Early in Fruits Basket, we get that golden trio with the lead girl Tohru Honda, the prince-charming Yuki Sohma, and the emotionally wounded but tough Kyo Sohma.

Many times, the author showed these three hanging out together in the manga, and most episodes of the new anime are centered around these fellows. Now, we get a fine cosplay to capture that friendship, with everyone relaxing under the afternoon sun on the soft grass. It looks cozy! And those wigs... they look so real.

9 Stubborn Ox

Yes, Yuki and Kyo dominate the scene where the Sohmas are concerned, but this is a zodiac of 12, not two! Tohru soon meets more core members of the Sohma family, and one of them is the boy known as Hatsuharu, who embodies the Ox/Cow.

He's a bit of a rebel type, and true to a spotted cow, he has a white side and a black side, a sort of yin and yang inside him. Normally he acts gruff but kind like Kyo, and other times, he goes ballistic. Here's a great cosplay of the resident ox boy, from his oddly white hair to his "fight me if you dare" expression and his fondness for black leather.

8 Lone cat

Poor Kyo. The Cat is the unofficial and most heavily cursed member of the zodiac, it being the 13th animal and doomed to a lifetime of misery. In the current Sohma generation, that tragic spirit is embodied in Kyo Sohma, the fierce redhead.

He's a loner for the most part, and he's always got his mind elsewhere. We get that 100% in this cosplayer, who shows off Kyo's trademark combination of being aloof, tough, lost in thought, and vulnerable. If you thought Hatsuharu was a mixed bag, just wait until you see Kyo's character arc.

7 Wascally Wabbit

Many of the Sohmas are bitter loners, knowing that the world at larger has no place for them. While the half-German Momiji Sohma does carry a heavy burden (his mom disowned him), he's a happy boy who really brightens your day.

It's no surprise that Tohru becomes his friend at once, and she's like a protective big sister. Check out this cosplayer, who harnesses Momiji's flamboyant and playful wardrobe while embracing the rabbit spirit. What a good kid Momiji is.

6 A girl and her cat

The budding relationship between Tohru and Kyo is central to the story of Fruits Basket, and not only is it heartwarming to see Tohru befriend and heal the cat boy, but it helps Tohru better understand how to deal with the Sohma curse. If she can heal one Sohma, she can do that to another.

Tohru is at ease, and this girl really knows how to unwind and appreciate the little things around her. It's how she's so happy. This cosplayer's pose and expression are totally authentic to the character, and the chibi Kyo plushie totally shows the contrast between Tohru's gentle nature and Kyo's wild side. They're so much fun together.

5 The other big three

Tohru wasn't totally alone before she was accepted into the cursed Sohma household. She's got two very good friends in Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima, with the former being a reformed gang girl and the latter being a misunderstood "witch" of sorts.

You guessed it: Tohru healed them both, and now the three girls are joined at the hip. It's nice to see these cosplayers celebrate such an excellent friendship, and their costumes and wigs are right on point. As a bonus, the Tohru cosplayer has a rice ball plushie, since rice balls often represent Tohru in certain speech bubbles. Bonus: Kagura, in the yellow dress, joins the group.

4 Cow and Horse

Who's that girl with Hatsuharau? It's Isuzu "Rin" Sohma, who embodies the Horse spirit of the zodiac. This poor girl is a tragic one, where her happy family life was shattered and she suffered serious punishment (by Akito's hand) for her relationship with Hatsuharu. Poor girl.

Still, these two really like each other, and Rin only broke up with Hatsuharu to protect him from Akito's wrath. Both cosplayers show off the characters' gently Goth style, complete with a lacy umbrella and a mysterious forest setting. Not all love stories end well, but that's just life. Good work, cosplayers.

3 Are you coming with us?

Hey, why are the cosplayers facing away from us? We can't even see their faces. But that's okay, because this is a creative photoshoot that's authentic to the characters of Yuki (left) and Kyo (right). Both boys are a bit reserved and don't show affection easily, but believe us, it's right there under the surface.

Tohru loves to hang out with these guys, and with her encouragement, they bravely march forward to a future where they can be truly happy. These two cosplayers represent that well, and it's like the characters are telling Tohru, "Thank you for all you did. Now, will you go forward with us?" Most likely, she will.

2 Super Sohma Brothers

Yuki isn't an only child. The spirit of the zodiac Snake is contained in his big brother Ayame Sohma, and these bros are a study in opposites. Where Yuki is quiet and bitter, Ayame is carefree and expressive, and even runs a girls' costume shop with his lovely assistant.

Even Ayame's long hair and billowy, Chinese-style robes show how different he is from Yuki, and both cosplayers here are posed just right to embody what makes these brothers so different. Yuki's had just about enough of this. Fortunately, both Yuki and Ayame mend ties and unite against anyone who would wish them harm.

1 Join us for dinner

Let's wrap up the list with a classic scene: dinner at the Sohma house. Most likely, Tohru (maybe with Kagura's help) fixed it right up, and everyone's having a good time. These cosplayers did a fine job recreating the dining room of Shigure Sohma's house.

Not only that, but the poses are just right too, from Kyo's casual "yeah, whatever" posture to Tohru's bright and cheery smile to Yuki's polite and calm demeanor. As a bonus, cardboard cutouts of the original characters are provided.
