After being kept under wraps since the film's announcement, the first plot details for Frozen 2 have surfaced online.

The Fine Tooning podcast claims Elsa and Anna will venture past the boundaries of Arendelle for a special mission. “It is about Anna and Elsa searching for what actually happened to their parents… they’re going to go beyond Arendelle,” the podcasters said.

In the first film, Anna and Elsa's parents appeared to die in a shipwreck, leaving them absent from the rest of the story. However, the sequel could easily retcon this. If accurate, the report raises a lot of questions: What circumstances led to their parents' survival, if they're alive at all? What leads Anna and Elsa to search for them?

The Frozen 2 trailer shows a scene in which Elsa, queen of the fictional Arendelle, uses her ice powers to make her way through crashing ocean waves at night. A few other clips are included, all of them free of dialogue and context, which seems to have been an effective way to stir up curiosity about the film without giving away any important information. This same trailer holds the distinction of being the most-viewed for an animated film in the first twenty-four hours of its release.
