With Frozen 2, the sequel to the highest-earning animated film of all time, arriving in theaters this November, new details about the movie's new characters have surfaced.
At the Walt Disney Animation Studios' presentation at D23 Expo in Anaheim, returning Frozen songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez promoted the upcoming sequel. While observing that audiences never really got the chance to know protagonists' Elsa and Anna's parents, they revealed that Evan Rachel Wood would portray the ill-fated mother to the siblings in a flashback sequence. Sterling K. Brown will be portraying a royal guard named Captain Mattias, who Anna looks up to.
Clips from the sequel were shown to the attendees featuring Wood's character singing to her daughters, while another clip had Mattias describing his father to Anna.
Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown's casting in the sequel was first revealed in July 2018, though details on both roles were kept under wraps at the time.
Arriving Nov. 22, Disney's Frozen 2 reunites directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and producer Peter Del Vecho with voice actors Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad. Returning musical talents include Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
