‘From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’ Casts D.J. Cotrona, Don Johnson and More

El Ray Network, the new cable channel co-created by Robert Rodriguez, has announced the principal cast for From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, a 10-episode drama based on the 1996 cult horror film by Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Rodriguez will direct the first two episodes.

D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe Retaliation) will star as Seth Gecko, the character portrayed in the original film by George Clooney. He’s joined by Zane Holtz (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Richie Gecko, and Jesse Garcia (Sons of Anarchy) as Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez, a new character. Don Johnson (Django Unchained) will appear in a recurring role as Sheriff Earl McGraw.

Much like the film, the supernatural crime series follows brothers Seth and Richie Gecko, who are wanted by the law after a bank robbery leaves several people dead. While escaping to Mexico, they take hostage a former minister and his family, using their RV to slip over the border. But when they detour to a strip club filled with vampires, they must fight until dawn if they have any hopes of getting out alive. According to a press release, “the series deepens the tone of the film, adds new characters and backstories and expands the Mesoamerican mythology behind the vampires.”
