From Dusk Till Dawn Heading to TV

Robert Rodriguez is getting his own television network, so it should come as no surprise that one of the first projects to be made for it is an adaptation of From Dusk Till Dawn. Univision announced during its upfront presentation in New York that Rodriguez has co-created the new El Ray Network, and that From Dusk Till Dawn will be one of two shows ready for its launch. The other is an untitled action series developed by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

It will be interesting to see how From Dusk Till Dawn makes the transition to the small screen. It became a cult hit after being released in 1996, and obviously Rodriguez will still be involved, as it will air on his television network. But what about George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino?

Tarantino’s involvement in particular would be fabulous, as he starred in and co-wrote the original film. It would be too much to ask for him to star in it once again (the same goes for Clooney, who is now a much bigger movie star than he was at the time), but it would be nice if Tarantino was still involved creatively in some way.

The El Ray Network is expected to launch later in 2013, so assumedly we’ll find more about casting and plot farther down the road. From Dusk Till Dawn definitely left the door open for a larger universe to be explored, so consider us on board with this idea for now. All the project needs to do is have a strong story and charming leads, and we can see this becoming a definitely cult TV hit.
