Fringe Flourishes On Friday Nights

And you were worried!

Okay, so were we. Given the track record of critically acclaimed television shows that have gone to Friday nights to die, particularly on Fox, we weren’t exactly optimistic about the network’s decision to move Fringe to Fridays. But unless one of Walter’s crazy plans somehow fudged the numbers, it looks like Fringe’s new Friday time slot didn’t deliver an instant deathblow to the beloved science fiction series — in fact, it may have improved its chances for survival.

TV Line reports that Fringe drew 4.89 million viewers with its midseason premiere on Friday night, numbers that are “up 12 percent from its last Thursday outing and building slightly on its lead-in, Kitchen Nightmares.” Those results should certainly please the folks writing the checks at Fox, as network executives said last year: “If it does anywhere near what it did on Thursdays [in terms of ratings], we can glue that show to the schedule because it can be a big win for us.” Assuming the show can sustain these numbers, it looks like Fringe fans have their Fridays booked up for the foreseeable future!
