It looks like Friends won't be there for you... at least for now.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Friends reunion special will not launch with HBO Max as originally planned. It was supposed to film on March 23 and 24, but was delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak. While it seems a virtual reunion was discussed, the cast and the HBO Max team both opted for an in-person special to be filmed at a later, undetermined date.

"We want to share some background information about the production dates for the upcoming unscripted Friends reunion special for HBO Max. As was previously reported, production is delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that the special will not be available on the streamer on Day 1 of launch. But it is coming!" HBO Max said in a statement.

The reunion was supposed to be a tentpole for HBO Max's launch this coming May, simmer to The Mandalorian for Disney+. The streamer paid over $400 million for the exclusive streaming rights of all ten seasons of the NBC comedy series, outbidding rival streamer Netflix. It will feature former cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer and will film on the original soundstage the series used.

The untitled Friends special, which is directed by Ben Winston, will be available on HBO Max. Original executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane will also return to work on the special. HBO Max launches this May.
