Comic book writer Ed Brubaker has divulged more details about his new webcomic FridayPublished by Panel Syndicate and illustrated by artist Marcos Martin (Daredevil, Amazing Spider-Man), the series follows former child detective Friday Fitzhugh as she discovers that occult forces have sprung up in her old hometown.

Brubaker describes the series as a "post -YA" story, especially since Friday was modeled after literary characters like Nancy Drew and Encyclopedia Brown.

In a forthcoming interview with CBR, Brubaker said, "You can find that over and over again in YA series, kids just living this endless youth as the decades around them change. I always found that both comforting and strange."  He added, "Post-YA is just taking those same types of teen heroes, and allowing them to grow up and exist in the real world around them, to allow the strange occult mysteries they investigate to become actual horror stories."

Brubaker is no stranger to flipping genre conventions on their head, most notably found in his works such as Incognito and Fatale.

Written by Ed Brubaker, illustrated by Marcos Martin and colored by Muntsa Vicente, Friday #1 is on sale now through Panel Syndicate.
