Bel-Air, a reimagined drama of the hit NBC comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has been ordered by Peacock for two seasons. Bel-Air is based on a viral YouTube video by Morgan Cooper, who is working on the project with Will Smith and co-writer Chris Collins.

Smith broke the news to Cooper in a video posted to YouTube. "We have just officially closed the deal with Peacock with an unprecedented two-season-order from a pitch," Smith said. "I've been in this business for thirty years and that does not happen. They ordered two full seasons of Bel-Air based on the quality of the pitch and the work that you guys have done. So I want to say congratulations. I am hyped."

Originally airing from 1990 to 1996, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starred Will Smith, James Avery, Janet Hubert-Whitten and Alfonso Ribeiro, in addition to many others. The show followed a fictionalized version of Smith being uprooted from West Philadelphia to Bel-Air after a fight. The immensely popular sitcom helped launch Smith's acting career, which has consisted of such films as I, Robot, I am Legend and Gemini Man. Smith was working on a reboot of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 2015 through his Overbrook Entertainment, but no such project materialized. Smith was reportedly working on a spinoff of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 2019.
