WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Free Guy, now playing in theaters.

Guy (Ryan Reynolds) spends most of Free Guy trying to become a more skilled and heroic figure, all in a bid to impress Millie (Jodie Comer). But as he learns more about the true nature of the video game world around him, Guy also gains an increasingly impressive arsenal of weapons -- including some distinct ones from other franchises.

Here are some of the best references to classic video games hidden throughout Free Guy, and how the titular hero utilizes them.

Mega Man's Mega-Buster

Mega Man X with Reploids

The Mega-Buster is the signature weapon of Mega Man. The blue cannon attached to his arm allows the titular robot to maneuver and fire upon his enemies from a distance. A standard weapon for the character since his debut on the original Nintendo Entertainment System, the Mega-Buster is among the more iconic weapons in video game history.

After leveling up in Free Guy by becoming Free City's only true "good guy," Guy rushes to the defense of Millie when she's surrounded by threats while trying to claim proof of Antwon (Taika Watiti) stealing the game design she and Keys (Joe Keery) had worked on previously that is secretly the core of Free City. When Guy arrives, he deploys a number of weapons and tools, including the Mega-Buster, which he uses to blast at some of their enemies.

The Portal Gun

The Portal Gun is the main gimmick of the Portal series of games. The cult classic puzzle game follows the player-character, Chel, as she tries to maneuver her way through an increasingly difficult series of puzzles put in place before her, all while using the Portal Gun to create rifts in space that she can move herself and other objects through.

The Portal Gun is shown to be a decidedly useful weapon in Free City, with Millie utilizing it early in part to establish how skilled she is in the game. The portals even carry the distinct blue and orange color scheme from the original game. Likewise, Guy later uses the Portal Gun during his fight against his muscle-bound doppelganger, Dude.

Fortnite's Rainbow Smash

The Rainbow Smash is one of the harvesting tools used in Fortnite. An open-world shooter that positions players on an ever-shrinking battlefield, Fortnite forces players to harvest supplies, find weapons and survive as they fight their way to the center of the ring. A deluxe version of the harvesting tool is the Rainbow Smash, a unicorn-themed variant of the traditional pick-axe used primarily throughout the game.

The Rainbow Smash is one of the more iconic pieces of gear from Fortnite and is one of the many weapons that Guy tries to utilize against Dude during their brief skirmish in Free Guy. While it does little to stop the muscle-bound enemy, it is a fun weapon to see Guy use -- especially considering the influence games like Fortnite had on the world of Free City.

Half-Life 2's Gravity Gun

The Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator -- or as it is more commonly known, the Gravity Gun -- is one of the more distinct weapons that can be found by Gordon Freeman in the critically-adored Half-Life 2. Capable of lifting and dragging any inorganic material, the Gravity Gun proved to be a quickly versatile weapon and a fan-favorite from the game.

The Gravity Gun appears as one of the weapons utilized by Guy during his fight with Dude. It's also one of the more effective, allowing Guy to swing Dude around with ease. Although it doesn't give him the win, it's quietly one of the funniest cameos from another franchise's arsenal -- even when compared to Captain America's shield from the MCU and the blue lightsaber from Star Wars.

See Ryan Reynolds' Guy wield all kinds of gaming's best devices in Free Guy, now playing in theaters.
