In 1988, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince released a song titled  "A Nightmare on My Street". Though it isn't officially licensed as part of the A Nightmare on Elm Street films, the song is obviously about Freddy Krueger, combining Charles Berstein's iconic theme from the films with the opening theme song of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The song was the third single from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's second studio album, He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper, and was almost an official part of the film franchise when New Line Cinema briefly considered including it in the soundtrack for A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.

While the song never made it on the big screen, it's become the stuff of internet legend because of the supposed music video that was made but never released. Supposedly, the video was destroyed after New Line decided against using the song, so it's unlikely that it'll ever be seen in its full form. The best fans will ever get is some rare behind-the-scenes photos that were taken from the filming of the video that became uncovered in 2018.

No matter the setback, Freddy was destined to get his own musical number. While A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Master didn't use the Jeff & Prince version, it did get an original song for release. "Are You Ready For Freddy?" by The Fat Boys became the official theme song of The Dream Master, and was released as part of the movie's soundtrack, while also being featured on The Fat Boy's 1988 album Coming Back Hard Again.

In the music video for the song, Fat Boys member Prince Markie Dee's "Uncle Frederick" has just died, and his lawyer meets the group outside the Nightmare on Elm Street house. In what feels like a rip off from Scooby-Doo's "A Night of Fright is No Delight," Markie is informed that he must spend the night inside Uncle Frederick's home in order to earn his inheritance. But, not long after they go in, nonother than Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger appears and begins to chase the band throughout the house, only stopping to rap his own verses.

"Are You Ready For Freddy?" wasn't of those beats that transitioned from the '80s very well, and was pushed even further back from the spotlight when The Fat Boys broke up in the early '90s. Despite that, the song feels in tune with the A Nightmare On Elm Street films and manages to turn Freddy into a rap star.

Looking back at it, the song actually fits Freddy and The Dream Master perfectly, as the cult film is as much forgotten by mainstream viewers as the song itself. Freddy really feels right at home amidst the cheesy lyrics.
