Brendan Fraser (The Mummy franchise, Doom Patrol) and Tom Welling (SmallvilleLucifer) will have leading roles in Scandinavian streaming service Viaplay's new series: The Professionals.

Very loosely-based on 2012's the Christian Slater-led Soldiers of FortuneDeadline reports Welling has signed on to play Captain Vincent Corbo, a former counter-intelligence officer, while Fraser will play "billionaire futurist Peter Swann." The ten-part series, which is now filming in South Africa and Ireland, follows Corbo, who is hired by Swann to solve the mystery of a medical satellite launch gone wrong. The series explores Corbo's investigation into government, industry and organized crime networks, some or all of whom may be responsible for the destruction of the satellite.

Best known for his role as Clark Kent on Smallville, Welling recently played Marcus Pierce/Cain in the television series Lucifer, inspired by a DC-published comic book of the same name. Fraser, who made a name for himself as an action star with The Mummy franchise, currently plays Cliff Steele on the critically-acclaimed DC Universe series Doom Patrol.
