Sin City is one of Frank Miller’s most popular works. The noir series uses stark artwork with mere splashes of color for effect, becoming one of the most well-known creations of the iconic writer/artist. And now, the film and television rights to the franchise have reverted back to Miller.

The rights had formerly belonged to the Weinstein Company. That company is going through bankruptcy in the wake of founder Harvey Weinstein being charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and rape in New York. Much of the company and their properties were recently sold to Lantern Capital Partners for $289 million.

When the sale was announced, Miller objected to Sin City being part of the sale. A settlement has now been decided, which returns the rights to a potential television series and the first film to Miller. The settlement does not apply to the second Sin City film, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The first Sin City was a massive hit in 2005. The sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, was far less successful. It is unknown if Miller has any intent to make a Sin City television series, but that may change in the coming months.
