The World’s Greatest Detective has appeared in thousands of comics since debuting 80 years ago, but there might not be any more important than Frank Miller's Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns. Miller has now shared his thoughts on Batman's birthday.Miller took to Twitter, writing, “They tell me the old man turns 80 today, but every time I sit down to draw him, I feel like that little boy again.â€
Miller and artist David Mazzucchelli created Batman: Year One in 1987. Miller had previously worked with Mazzucchelli on the Daredevil story “Born Again,†which also received critical acclaim. Year One recounts the very first time Bruce Wayne donned the cowl. Additionally, Miller wrote and co-illustrated the landmark Batman miniseries The Dark Knight Returns with artist Klaus Janson. That story focuses on a middle-aged Batman teaming up with Carrie Kelley as a new Robin to go up against Superman and the federal government.
Batman first appeared in National Allied Publications' Detective Comics #27 as Bat-Man in 1939. Writer Bill Finger and artist Bob Kane’s newest crime fighting vigilante has since gone on to become one of the most iconic and recognizable superheroes in history.
