The comic world inspired by Frank Frazetta's paintings continues to expand with publisher Opus Comics offering digital options for readers, as well as a new series entitled Frank Frazetta's Mothman.

Opus Comics, which has named all of the Frazetta-inspired titles in its catalog the "FrazettaVerse," is partnering with GlobalComix to offer Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer and Frank Frazetta's Dawn Attack in a downloadable digital format on Feb 9., in honor of what would have been Frazetta's 95th birthday.

Opus' FrazettaVerse Expands With Mothman

Frank Frazetta's Mothman, Opus' next comic, is based on Frazetta's 1980 painting Mothman and is scheduled to launch in May. The first issue features an eerie story inspired by the sightings of a giant man-size moth with glowing eyes from 1966 to '67 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The series is penned by Tim Hendrick (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and illustrated by Andrea Mutti (British paranormal Society), who also draws the cover for the first issue.

The FrazettaVerse kicked off last May with Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer, which sold nearly 50,000 copies of its first issue. Frank Frazetta's Dawn Attack, another series based on a science-fiction-themed painting done in 1991, was released last November. Aside from Mothman, the other new entry in the FrazettaVerse is Frank Frazetta's Tales of Science-Fantasy #1, a quarterly anthology series launching in April, with each issue inspired by a separate Frazetta painting.

Frank Frazetta was of the foremost sword and sorcery artists in 20th-century America. Aside from his iconic work on characters like Conan the Barbarian, he also contributed to comics -- including anthologies like Burning Combat and the 1940s western series White Indian.
