The "Flash Gordon" movie is indeed still happening as 20th Century Fox has hired the co-writer of "Thor" to rewrite the screenplay.

Mark Protosevich announced on his Facebook page that he'll be rewriting the film's script for director Matthew Vaughn ("Kick-Ass," "X-Men: First Class").

"I can't wait to get started and if you're curious about the take? I'm not saying a word. All I'll say is this - it will be nothing like any version of 'Flash Gordon' you've seen," said Protosevich (via HitFix).

Prior to the hiring of Protosevich, a script was written by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay -- scribes of the upcoming "Hellfire" series on FOX and the original "Star Trek Beyond" screenplay -- when Vaughn came on board to direct last year.

Protosevich's credits include "Thor," "I Am Legend," and the "Oldboy" remake.
