Despite helming The CW's successful slate of DC Comics inspired superhero dramas, Greg Berlanti says that one of the other heroes he's currently developing for the small screen will remain separate from the Arrowverse.

Asked about the "Black Lightning" series he's currently developing for Fox, and whether the title character would be included in future crossover episodes alongside the casts of "Supergirl," "Arrow," "The Flash" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," the executive producer responded in the negative.

"I don’t think so," Berlanti said. "If we’re lucky enough that that exists, that that show exists, I don’t think those worlds will cross over."

In September 2016, Fox committed to pilot production for a "Black Lightning" series, developed by Berlanti and “The Game’s” Salim and Mara Brock Aki. The series is envisioned as an hourlong drama.

Created in 1977 by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden, Black Lightning was DC Comics’ first major African-American superhero. Known as a longstanding member of Batman’s Outsiders, Black Lightning went on to be a key member of the “Justice League,” particularly under the mid-’00s relaunch by Brad Meltzer and Ed Benes.

The series will reportedly focus on Jefferson Pierce, "who hung up his suit and his secret identity years ago. However, with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning."

Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Akil Productions and Berlanti Productions, the pilot is being written by Akils, who are also executive producing, alongside Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
