Another "X-Files" event series appears to be inching closer to reality.

According to TV Guide, Fox executives announced today at the Television Critics Association fall preview that the network is "in significant talks with the three principals." That, of course, would be creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

It's a familiar, if slow-moving, tune, as Carter and Fox executives have at different times expressed interest in additional episodes -- beginning even before the miniseries revival debuted in January. The last we heard, in May, the network was having "ongoing" conversations with Carter, Duchovny and Anderson; perhaps "significant talks" is an upgrade.

At that time Fox suggested there could be an announcement next spring, with more "X-Files" episodes targeted for the 2017-18 season.
