Last night a number of "New Mutants" casting rumors broke out via HitFix. Now 20th Century Fox has clarified to Nerdist that those casting rumors are entirely false.

After months in development, the rumor claimed to announce the first actors cast in the feature film: Alexandra Shipp and James McAvoy would reprise their roles as Storm and Professor X, and "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams would play Wolfsbane while Anya Taylor-Joy ("The Witch") would play Magik. Additionally, the rumors stated that Cannonball, Sunspot and Mirage would round out the young cast. Fox has now denied all of that information.

Josh Boone, who directed the 2014 film adaptation of "The Fault in Our Stars," is attached to direct "The New Mutants" as well as co-write the film with Knate Gwaltney. Boone announced that the first draft of the "New Mutants" screenplay was completed in October 2015. The film will be produced by Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler-Donner.

No release date has been announced for "New Mutants."
