Fox Commands David Ayer To Remake Commando

A Commando remake. Say it ain't so, Arnie!

Mike Fleming of Deadline New York reports that Fox has tapped filmmaker David Ayer to write and direct a remake of Commando, the 1985 Arnold Schwarzengger-starring action flick about retired special forces soldier John Matrix's mission to assassinate a government official in order to rescue his daughter from captivity. The new film will reportedly reinterpret the original Commando protagonist as "less brawny, but more skilled in covert tactics and weaponry."

Ayer's past credits include writing the screenplay for Training Day and directing Harsh Times and Street Kings, so his expertise rests mostly in the realm of gritty crime fare. I think that could work for a Commando redo — even though the inner fifth grader who wrote fan letters to Schwarzenegger in me won't stop crying.

I'm sorry, Little Wiggy. I wish there was more that I could do, but unless we want to risk extermination, it's best to just roll with the modern era of pissing on everything we used to love as a child.
