Riding high from Real Steel, the sci-fi drama about robot boxers, director Shawn Levy may soon turn his attention to the classic tale of a wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy.

Deadline reports Fox has closed a six-figure deal for a spec script from playwright Michael Vukadinovich that's billed as a prequel Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. Drawing comparisons to Big Fish or The Princess Bride, the film apparently chronicles "a life of misfortune, war and adventure" that Geppetto endures in an effort to be with his true love Julia Moon.

Geppetto will probably have to wait a while, though, as Levy is next expected to tackle Fox's "sci-fi take" on Frankenstein.
