"Amulet" may be the next comic book property to make the jump from graphic novel series to big-screen franchise. Deadline reported Tuesday that 20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to the Kazu Kibuishi's popular and acclaimed adventure/fantasy series, with the hopes of turning it into a film franchise.

The in-development "Amulet" film will be produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey at Temple Hill, a production company that has a history with young adult adaptations including the "Maze Runner" films.

Kibushi commented on the news via Twitter:

Looks like the news is out: Amulet will be a live-action movie, hopefully a series. Looking forward to this. https://t.co/6QBH8uaL90- Kazu Kibuishi (@boltcity) November 10, 2015

Published by Scholastic, "Amulet" debuted in 2008, with the seventh volume, "Firelight," scheduled for release next year. Kibuishi plans nine volumes in total for the series, which stars a young girl named Emily who finds a portal to an alternate world in her great-grandfather's house -- a world populated by monsters, talking animals, robots, demons and other fantastical creatures.
