Weeks after rumors began to surface of a collaboration with the famed manga and anime, Fortnite confirmed Dragon Ball is coming to the battle royal. The official Twitter page for the game confirmed the upcoming release of Dragon Ball content with an epic teaser image. It shows an Eternal Dragon rising over the mountains, glowing bright gold. A caption reads, "Speak. Name your wish…8.16.2022," referencing the ability of the Eternal Dragon to grant those who collect all the Dragon Balls any wish, along with the presumed release date for the content.RELATED: Fortnite Adds Its First Invisible Skin With John Cena

A leak in July suggested that four Dragon Ball skins would make their way to Fortnite in the coming weeks. These included perhaps the most famous of the Saiyan fighters, Goku and Vegeta, and the cat-like God of Destruction, Beerus from Universe 7. The rumor also indicated the addition of a fourth, unnamed character, which many fans presumed to be a female fighter. Fans speculated that a Fortnite/Dragon Ball crossover might occur as part of the promotion for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which makes its North American debut on Aug. 19, three days after the date given in the Fortnite tweet.

Goku and Vegeta are perhaps the series' most famous characters, having been there from the beginning, while Beerus is a more recent addition to the cast. Beerus is the main villain in Dragon Ball Super, the most recent edition of the anime. He came to Earth intending to battle the Super Saiyan God, though he ramped up his plans to the destruction of the planet after encountering Goku and Vegeta. Beerus only abandoned this plan after facing Goku in battle.

Rumors of a crossover began last year when a notable leaker, Twea, revealed evidence that Epic Games was working with Shueisha, the publishing company that produces Shonen Jump manga. The leak claimed both Naruto and Dragon Ball would get related content in Fortnite in the future, though it did not specify when or to what degree. Later in 2021, Fortnite formally announced Naturto content for the game with a similarly simple teasing tweet.

In early July, players noticed a creative prop called a Stamina Container bearing the Capsule Corp logo from the Dragon Ball franchise. Several fans noted that this in part matched Fortnite's method of announcing Naruto, as a month prior to the official announcement, the game added a scroll and a bowl of ramen indicative of the series. For further details, players will have to wait until Aug. 16.
