With its explosion into popular culture, Fortnite has drawn players into gaming that would otherwise have sat off to the side, uninterested in video games. In order to help newer players begin their journey with the game in an enjoyable manner, Epic Games will be adding Bots to the game with the upcoming Season 11.

"In the next Season, we are adding Bots to Fortnite. They will behave similarly to normal players and will help provide a better path for players to grow in skill," Epic said in a post explaining the update. "Bots will work in conjunction with the new matchmaking system, and as your skill improves, you’ll face fewer Bots. Bots will not be present in Competitive playlists. This is another system that we will continue to update and iterate."

It is clear that Bots are an addition that aims to support the up-and-coming player. While human players can be unpredictable, Epic likely hopes that Bots will provide a less intimidating entry into the world of Fortnite for those that are still learning how to play. Once a player becomes skillful enough, they will no longer need to face Bots. The introduction of Bots comes alongside an update to the matchmaking logic, meaning that players will "be more likely to match with players of similar skill, and as [they] get better, so should [their] opponents."

The inclusion of new-player-friendly Bots and improved matchmaking will aim to provide more pleasant games for players across all skill levels, and cement Fortnite's current popularity.

Fortnite Season 11 will begin in early October.
