The latest game from Square Enix, Forspoken, is an action adventure with a few role-playing elements. In the game, the player is transported by a magic cuff from the ordinary world to a fantasy world filled with magic and monsters. As the protagonist, Frey Holland, players will eventually be able to use four different types of magical spells to face off against some of the more hostile inhabitants of the land. These abilities can also be used to travel using magical parkour.

While players will be able to use purple magic from the very beginning of the game, they won't be able to access blue magic until Chapter 8. Blue magic gives the player powers related to water for attacking enemies, supporting themselves during combat, and traversing the land. Here are a few of the best spells related to blue magic that players can get ahold of in Forspoken.

Oubliette Is One of the Best Support Spells in Forspoken

This is a great spell for combat situations that has quite a bit of utility and power. Casting Oubliette will create a huge sphere of water, which enemies are pulled into and trapped in. Frey can also attack the sphere, which makes it explode and deals quite a bit of AoE damage, so it has a lot of possibilities for strategic moves. It is also a great spell for crowd control with both defensive and offensive capabilities.

Alb Is a Key Defensive Spell for Boss Fights

Forspoken's Frey uses magic in front of a mountrain.

This is a spell in the blue magic skill tree that is important to get as soon as possible. Alb is a useful defensive spell that gives Frey protective armor, reducing all damage taken from an unblockable attack or a piercing attack. As such, it's a great spell to use during boss fights or when an environment lacks sufficient cover. However, it only blocks a single attack, so use it wisely.

Up and Away Is a Powerful Advanced Spell

This is a special spell that is extremely useful in fights, as it provides quite a bit of mobility. Using Up and Away will make Frey jump up into the air, so it's great for avoiding enemies and powerful attacks. It will also make Frey unleash several water attacks, and it's great for blasting enemies away while in the air. However, this is a fairly advanced spell, so the player will not be able to access it for a while.

Fan Bolt Is One of the Best Combat Spells

This is probably one of the best combat-based spells available in the blue skill tree. Using Fan Bolt will summon a magical bow that shoots arrows in a horizontal line that deal high amounts of water damage. This move has a rather quick charge and can hit multiple enemies at once. It's also great to use on a single opponent as it will pile on the damage. It works well when paired with Up and Away.

Cataract (Level 3) Is Perfect For Crowd Control

The Surge spell for blue magic, Cataract creates a whirlpool vortex that pulls in enemies. Cataract is great for crowd control as it will draw enemies into a center and allow the player to set up some attack spells to concentrate into one area. Like other Surge spells, this works best if it's fully leveled as its final level will allow the player to summon icy pillars that freeze enemies, giving it even more effectiveness.

Use Naedre Wisely as a Debuffer

While other types of magic are heavier in terms of offensive roles, blue magic spells often provide various debuffing effects and Naedre is one of them. This spell summons an eel-like creature that snakes itself between enemies, applying light damage and poisoning them. It's best used after completing its Spellcraft challenge, as its poison will last much longer, but in general, it's a great spell for dealing passive damage and facing off against swarms of beefy enemies.

What the Blue Magic Founts of Blessings Are

In terms of spells useful in non-combat situations, there are two blue spells that the player will have access to by finding the spells' associated Founts of Blessing. Fortify, found in the Windy Hills in Avoalet, improves Frey's crafting skills and allows the player to improve Frey's cloak and necklace. Float, found in the Inner Visoria Refuge, manipulates gravity around Frey to soften potential falls, preventing fall damage and stamina depletion.
