Even as review embargoes lift and the film opens in France, two new featurettes have arrived for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” focusing on stunt training and, nominally, story.
In the first, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega discuss the physical preparations for their roles — kickboxing and rock-climbing for one, lightsaber duels for the other — and their experiences on location in Abu Dhabi. “Running back and forth in the desert, you honestly feel like you’re body is trying to find the oxygen in the air, because it’s so hot,” Boyega says. “Me and Daisy were thrust right into it.”
In the second video, they’re joined by Harrison Ford, Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie to delve not into plot details — relax, no spoilers! — but rather their experiences making the film.
“It’s a thrill to create and add something to this — it’s not even a franchise, it’s a cultural phenomenon,” Isaac says. “It’s American mythology.”
Directed by J.J. Abrams, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens Friday across North America.
