Food Wars, Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon and more are leaving Crunchyroll's streaming service on March 31.

Crunchyroll announced that over fifty titles would be leaving its streaming library before the end of the month. The streaming service did not offer an explanation for the series' removal, but it is worth noting that most of the shows being delisted, such as Food Wars: Shogeki No Shoma, Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun, Amagi Brilliant Park and Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon (DanMachi), are distributed internationally by Sentai Filmworks, which owns and operates the competing HIDIVE streaming service. The delisted titles include critically acclaimed series such as rom-com Golden Time and Kids on the Slope, an anime that was directed by Cowboy Bebop's Shinichiro Watanabe.

The move comes just weeks after Funimation announced that it was moving most of its streaming library over to Crunchyroll's platform. Sony, which has owned Funimation since 2017, purchased Crunchyroll in 2021 for a reported $1.1 billion USD and now appears to be consolidating all of the conglomerate's international anime operations under the Crunchyroll brand. According to Crunchyroll, the addition of Funimation's library now gives the company the largest library of streaming anime in the world.

Sony's purchase of Crunchyroll was criticized by some within the anime industry as giving the Japanese tech giant an uncompetitive level of control over the international anime market. Sony also owns Aniplex, a company that has been involved in the production and distribution of several of the industry's most popular anime series, including Fullmetal Alchemist, Sword Art Online and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba.

Despite operating its own HIDIVE streaming service, Sentai Filmworks previously licensed out many of its series to other streaming platforms, including Crunchyroll, Hulu and Prime Video. Last January, Sentai was bought up by AMC, the entertainment company that is best known for operating the AMC cable TV network, which is the home of shows such as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. The company has been increasing the number of exclusives available on the HIDIVE service in recent months, which includes the addition of the entire Lupin the Third anime series and the upcoming new season of the popular Made in Abyss fantasy series. It is currently unknown if Sentai's titles on other streaming networks, such as Hulu, will also be delisted.
