Many people love to consult their horoscope, and use it as a guide for their everyday life as well as a way to understand their general personality. The twelve signs are based on common constellations, from Scorpio to Aries to Gemini, and some people identify quite strongly with it.

Whether you're dedicated to the horoscopes or just have a passing interest, it can be fun to use your sign to see what sort of fictional characters you most closely resemble, and we can do that for the cooking anime Food Wars!, too. This culinary Shonen anime has a diverse and colorful cast, and whatever your sign may be, there's a character who's your spiritual brother or sister. Let's review them.

12 Aries (March 21-April 19): Ryo Kurokiba

Aries people are bold and confident, and they never back down from a challenge. In fact, they revel in challenges, and they may see challenges as the best route to personal growth and development. Nothing like a trial by fire.

This is just like Ryo, a fiercely competitive chef who will only compete with the very best chefs out there. He is bored by weak-willed chefs or one-sided culinary challenges; he needs a fight to the death, so to speak.

11 Taurus (April 20-May 20): Megumi Tadokoro

A Taurus couldn't possibly differ more from an Aries. By contrast, those born under the Taurus sign are considered easygoing, relaxed people who like to savor the sweet and succulent things in life.

This is in line with Megumi Tadokoro's way of thinking. Her cooking is based on home-style hospitality with a seafood edge, and she can make even the most anxious, upset, or angry people at ease and happy with her dishes.

10 Gemini (May 21-June 20): Hisako Arato

Anyone born as a Gemini is a busy bee, at least according to their horoscope. Why is this sign represented by twins? Because Geminis are so busy, they need a second body so they can accomplish all of their intended tasks!

We see something like that in Hisako Arato, Erina Nakiri's personal assistant and secretary. This girl can juggle paperwork, meetings, phone calls, and a whole lot more without a single word of complaint, making her a fine Gemini.

9 Cancer (June 21-July 22): Eishi Tsukasa

Our next sign is one of the water signs, Cancer the crab. This is an interesting one: Cancers are balanced between the physical and the mental (or even supernatural) realms, and they can "sense" energy around them. It's a mystical sort of sign.

Cue Eishi Tsukasa, the first seat of the Council of Ten. He's an expert chef because he can "talk" to the ingredients and fully understand what they need, and no one else can decipher how he does it. But he can, and that makes him the "white knight of the table."

8 Leo (July 23-August 22): Terunori Kuga

Leos are perhaps the showiest of all the astrology signs. It is a constellation of a lion, a kingly and proud animal that must be at the center of attention. Leos love theatrics and showing off, and they simply love to live it up any way they can.

Overall, we must say that Terunori Kuga is an exemplary Leo, given his flamboyant and upbeat personality and his huge, showy Chinese food stand during the Moon Festival. He drew in big crowds for his food, and he couldn't get enough of it.

7 Virgo (August 23-September 22): Alice Nakiri

Anyone born as a Virgo, according to astrology, is a diligent, logical, and systematic person who prefers the value of hard work over theatrics or cunning ambition. These people are patient and play the long game to get results.

Alice Nakiri does have her dramatic side, but she is a Virgo because she methodically uses the power of science to calculate the perfect foods for any type of ingredient or culinary theme. She doesn't have a cookbook; she has a science manual.

6 Libra (September 23-October 22): Azami Nakiri

No, we're not saying that Libras are villainous! But according to horoscopes, Libras are interested in careful balance and harmony, and the associated constellation is, of course, a set of scales (this is also where the "lb" abbreviation of Imperial pounds comes from).

Azami Nakiri may take this to a negative extreme with his consolidation of Totsuki and the creation of Central, but he's still a Libra, and he wants all chefs to benefit from his perfected, standardized recipes and cooking strategies.

5 Scorpio (October 23-November 21): Subaru Mimasaka

Scorpio is a misunderstood sign. It is actually based on water, not fire, despite Scorpio people's tendency to be driven and ambitious. Instead, Scorpios are intuitive and calculating like the other water signs, and they can "sense" things.

We can't find a better fit for that than Subaru Mimasaka, a ruthless chef who can "read" people and mimic them and their cooking perfectly.  Then he improves their signature dish by one step in a shokugeki to win!

4 Sagittarius (November 22-December 21): Joichiro Yukihira

Joichiro Yukihara from Food Wars!.

Unlike Scorpio, Sagittarius really is a fire sign, and it seems to have some overlap with Virgo. This sign is based on the passionate pursuit of knowledge, like the archer shooting flaming arrows for a target.

Joichiro, Soma's father, is an enthusiastic chef who burns to know all there is to know about cooking, to a reckless degree. But the results pay off; his flexible, worldly cooking is peerless.

3 Capricorn (December 22-January 19): Takumi Aldini

What defines a Capricorn? Symbolized by mythical sea goats, Capricorns are patient and diligent (being an earth sign), and they get stronger, wiser, and more playful with age. It's said that they age in reverse, gaining strength in old age.

The half-Italian chef Takumi Aldini has shown us some Capricorn signs, patiently building up his skills to maintain his rather one-sided rivalry with Soma. He even made it into the Council of Ten later on!

2 Aquarius (January 20-February 18): Soma Yukihira

Aquarius is not a water sign; it's actually based on air, believe it or not. Aquarius people are free-spirited and non-conformist, and they believe in the power of the people. They like to carve their own destinies, and help others do the same.

Who else could this describe but Soma Yukihira, the rogue diner chef who will innovate his way out of any bind? He's the most flexible and creative chef in Food Wars!, and no one can tie him down for long.

1 Pisces (February 19-March 20): Satoshi Isshiki

We arrive at the last sign, a water sign that has learned all the lessons, joys, and pains of the other eleven. It's a flexible sign that doesn't stay in one place, and it's often preoccupied with illusions and concepts. This also makes it an empathetic sign.

Often, Satoshi Isshiki of the Polar Star Dormitory acts like that. During the final shokugeki against Central, he helped his childhood friend Nene overcome her doubts and insecurities, and he's a wonderful and empathetic big brother to everyone in the dorm. He's everyone's best friend.
