Many a child has spent a daydream-filled afternoon navigating living rooms and playgrounds, avoiding contact with the ground by pretending it's bubbling hot lava.

This childhood fantasy has come true in Netflix's latest competition series, Floor Is Lava, where teams traverse elaborate obstacle courses with a floor covered in an ominous orange liquid. Netflix has released the first official trailer for the series, heralding its debut this week.

Entering mock oversized living rooms and bedrooms to more exotic, tropical-inspired obstacle courses to reflect the volcanic nature of the game's fantasy premise, the teams are surprised by twists to the obstacles, from triggers to add new elements to the course and apparent real insects and creepy crawlies to keep the players on their toes as they climb above the faux magma.

The series will be hosted by Rutledge Wood, a racing analyst for NASCAR on NBC broadcasts and a former co-host of the American incarnation of the popular British television series Top Gear. With $10,000 on the table for winning teams, one childhood fantasy has become surprisingly lucrative... if the players can make through lava-filled rooms in one piece.
