The Flintstones will return to television as an adult animated series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Banks' Brownstone Productions is teaming with Warner Bros. Animation to develop a version of the animated series that is geared towards adults. The project, still in the very early stages, does not yet have a network or release date.

A children's series titled Yabba-Dabba Dinosuars! is also in the works. Set to air in 2020, the series will debut on the animation streaming platform Boomerang and follow Pebbles Flintstone and Bamm-Bamm Rubble, who are now teenagers.

Airing on ABC from 1960 to 1966, The Flinstones was the first animated series to be nominated for an Emmy for outstanding comedy series. The series has been revived or spun off nearly a dozen times in the past five decades, first in 1971 with The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, and most recently in 1996 with Cave Kids: Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm. It's also spawned numerous animated specials, television movies and two live-action features.

More recently, The Flintstones found new life as a DC comic series by writer Mark Russell and artist Steve Pugh. Over the course of its 12 issues, it earned middling-to-positive reviews, scoring an 8.4 out of 10 for an overall critical rating.

In 2011, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane intended to reboot the franchise. The project was delayed in 2012, then never moved forward. Elf's Will Ferrell and Ant-Man writer Adam McKay gave it a whirl in 2014, but nothing came of it. Hopefully, Banks' reimagining will have better luck.
