10 Similar Resemblance to Neon Genesis Evangelion Character

There are so many references to other anime, cartoons, and movies in Fooly Cooly that it would be hard to find them all. The creators of Fooly Cooly intentionally placed these references in here because they are either fans themselves or because they worked on a specific anime. The director and character designer of Fooly Cooly both worked on Neon Genesis Evangelion and Naota is based on one of the characters from that anime by the name of Shinji Ikari.

9 Naota Wanted To Be A Baseball Player

Seems like every kid at one time or another wants to be either a fireman, policeman or play some form of sports professionally. Naota isn't much different as behind his rather blah demeanor is a kid who wanted to be a professional baseball player. Though, he chooses not to even try since his brother Tasuku is already on that path, playing baseball in America. 4 Naota's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Connection

Fooly Cooly has made many references to other pop culture television shows over the course of the series. Many of them usually stems from a Japanese television source. However, instead of just a reference to a former Japanese live-action series, Fooly Cooly's director did one better by hiring Barbara Goodson to voice Naota. Her claim to fame is that she is the actual English voice actress who voiced Rita Repulsa from 1993 to 1997 on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

3 Where Did Naota's Hat Go?

When it comes to live-action series, there will always be a little scene here and there where something is slightly off about the background or character. Something that doesn't exactly match the scene but in anime when there is a difference in the scene, it is entirely on purpose. In episode 4 when Naota goes to get him a soda, he has his hat on but after getting the soda and going to see his friend Amarao his hat suddenly goes missing.

2 Haruko Leaves Her Bass With Naota In Final Episode

Haruko's personality can change on a whim and her feelings are always obscure. During the first few episodes of Fooly Cooly, she uses her sex appeal to get Naota to do what she wants with no regard for having actual feelings towards him but during the last episode, she begins to get a soft spot for him, allowing him to even kiss her before asking if he wants to join her in her quest.

1 Mamimi Calls Naota By Real Name

Mamimi and Naota's relationship in Fooly Cooly was disturbing most of the time. Mamimi was in love with Naota's brother but when he left to play baseball in America, Mamimi couldn't come to terms with it, so she pretended Naota was his brother, even though, there was a good five year age difference between the two. She oddly refers to him as Takun through the entire series but when Naota is hit with Haruko's Vespa, she calls out his real name for the first and only time.
