<i>Flatliners</i> Pegged For A Remake

In today’s edition of “Totally Unnecessary Remakes!” we look at the 1990 horror classic from Joel Schumacher, Flatliners. The original movie boasted a hot young cast — Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and William Baldwin, plus Oliver Platt — and a cool premise involving a group of med students who build an experiment with temporarily inducing death in order to explore the afterlife. It’s a marvelously creepy film, and a beautifully shot one, too. It’s also one of those classics that still holds up with repeat viewings.

Which, of course, means that Hollywood intends to mine every ounce of creativity from the core idea and repackage it into something new, and slightly familiar, with a remake. Source Code writer Ben Ripley will handle the script — bad news, as anyone who saw Source Code probably knows — and Larry Mark will produce, Heat Vision reports.
