The Flash Delivers a Fight Scene That Rivals Netflix’s Daredevil

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for "Think Fast," the latest episode of The Flash.

The CW's The Flash isn't exactly the first series you'd point to for jaw-dropping fight scenes. The effects-heavy drama is steeped in superpowers, as the lead hero races at super-speed to stop his villains. More often than not, the fight scenes on the series are brief or take place in slow-motion, slowing down just enough so that the viewers can see what the Scarlet Speedster is actually doing. For more high-octane physical fares, fans of the Arrowverse usually turn to Arrow, which often delivers well-choreographed action scenes.

And yet, "Think Fast" -- last night's episode of The Flash -- managed to deliver a fight scene so epic that it almost blows everything Arrow has ever done out of the water. Better still, it's a fight scene that rivals, and even exceeds, the high bar established by Daredevil's iconic hallway fight scenes. And the real kicker? The series' leading hero was nowhere to be seen. That's right: The Flash's greatest fight scene came courtesy of Season 4's primary antagonist, Clifford DeVoe, aka The Thinker.

We know what you're thinking. The Thinker thinks. It's kind of his thing. He's not the villain you look to for super-powered beatdowns. But throughout his appearances on the series, DeVoe has hopped from metahuman to metahuman body, collecting powers along the way. Now back to looking like his old self thanks to Elongated Man's powers, DeVoe is a walking powerhouse, and he unleashes his abilities like never before in the opening scene of "Think Fast."

In the scene, The Thinker storms an A.R.G.U.S. facility, facing countless soldiers in a hallway. There, he takes on all of these guards using superpower after superpower, in a fight scene that is presented as a tracking shot. It features one minute and 40-something seconds of uninterrupted, incredibly well-choreographed action that receives extra marks for using all manner of colorful and dynamic superpowers.

This Thinker fight scene truly means to rival the tracking-shot hallway fight scenes that have featured in both seasons of Daredevil. These fight scenes have essentially become a signature of sorts for the Netflix series, and it appears as though The CW has managed to one-up them. Now, Daredevil has his work cut out for him, and he will need to bring his A-game in Season 3 if he has any hopes of reclaiming the "hallway fight scene" throne.

As it stands, The Flash has just become the new champ. Better still, it did so with a character whose superpower is to think really hard.

Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Candice Patton as Iris West, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, and Tom Cavanagh as Harry Wells, with guest appearances from Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West and Hartley Sawyer as the Elongated Man.
